About
Born and raised on Long Island, I got my start playing bass as a teenager. After moving to NYC, I found my way to the Lower East Side singer-songwriter scene and began touring and recording with John Cale, Ray Davies, David Poe, Dog’s Eye View, Giant Sand, and Carolyne Mas, among many others.
In 1998, good friend and jazz guitar great Joseph Carter asked if I’d produce a record for TJ Swan, saying, “I wanna make a record that’s a cross between ‘Tumbleweed Connection’ and ‘Exile on Main St.’ You work with all these songwriters and the musicians that play with them—pull some folks together and let’s make a record. That was my first experience as a producer and engineer, and it was amazing.
I moved to Chicago in ’02 and quickly immersed myself in the local scene and the Old Town School as a player and teacher. I also became a partner in a full-service recording studio—Kingsize Sound Labs—where I engineer, record, produce, and master. In Chicago, I’ve had the good fortune to work with amazing songwriters and musicians on a daily basis, like Robbie Fulks, Freakons, Emily Hurd, Funeral Bonsai Wedding, Josh Berman, Martin Lang, and so many more.
Over the past 3+ decades, I’ve toured, recorded, or played with so many great artists that it would be impossible to list them all. (Here’s a partial list.) I’m so grateful that I have the opportunity to be around such incredible talent and good human beings. I’ve learned so much from them.
I’m always looking forward to the next one. Let’s play.
